If you are truly concerned about your health and not only your weight, you should go beyond dieting and cutting back on food servings. You should develop healthy eating habits so that you don't have to resort to fast fixes and yo-yo dieting. Of course, aside from eating the right food, you should also remember to stretch and exercise regularly.

If you look at the six important eating habits that are listed below, you will realize that these are the ones that our parents or even our early grade teachers have been telling us when we were little.

Do Not Skip Breakfast

Skipping breakfast may translate to pounds off your waist in the short term. In the long run, however, you will see that not eating breakfast will make you want to eat more energy-boosting food (such as chocolate bars and rich-in-sugar products) on the latter part of the day.

Breakfast is important because it will give you the much needed energy boost to start your day. Studies have also shown that women who eat breakfast are more likely to consume about 100 calories less than the one who didn't eat anything for breakfast.

Drink A Lot Of Water

Water is important to keep us hydrated so that we can perform at our peak everyday. It is advisable to consume not less than eight glasses of water everyday. If the temperature is high or you have been exercising, you need to drink more than the daily requirement. According to some studies, drinking several glasses of iced water will help speed up your metabolism by 33% because your body uses up energy to warm your body to the right temperature after you have drank a cold glass of water.

Increase Intake Of Vegetables and Fruits

Ideally, for a healthy eating habit, you need to eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits everyday. In reality, however, most of us barely even get one serving of fruit and vegetable a day. Fruits and vegetables are best eaten raw or slightly cooked. A research has shown that eating more vegetables and fruits will dramatically improve your complexion. Thus, if you want to have a healthy glow, don't skimp on fruits and vegetables.

Don't Forget To Eat Lunch

Never skip lunch because it gives you energy and fuel to keep on working throughout the afternoon. You really do not have to eat heavy lunch. A salad or a sandwich plus a banana or any fruit is already ok. If you don't eat lunch, your metabolism will slow down and your blood sugar level will drop. This will make you so hungry that you won't be able to control after dinner snacking.

Be Mindful Of Your Snack Choices

Do not be tempted to grab a chocolate bar or a bag of chips from the vending machine in the pantry of your office when you get hungry mid-morning or late afternoon. Junk foods will only temporarily satiate your hunger pangs. Moreover, such foods are not only rich in sodium and sugar, they also are high in calories.

Try bringing your own snack of healthy food, such as vegetables, fruits, whole-wheat crackers, nuts and even reduced-fat yogurt.

Maintain A Food Diary

You will be more mindful of the things that you eat when you keep a food diary. Furthermore, this will also help remind you of the number of servings of vegetables and fruits you still need to complete five servings in a day or number of glasses of water you still need to chug down to keep your body hydrated.
